Queen Anne Victorian home located in Reedsburg's historic district
provides guests the opportunity to retreat into the past with the
comforts of today. The Hofmanns' home was built in 1895 by
August and Ida Siefert, prominent citizens in Reedsburg's early days,
who emigrated from Germany to Wisconsin in 1873. The home and a
two-room playhouse in the backyard were the first home built on this
block. Breakfast at Parkview is one of the delights of
guests' stays. Donna, a home economist, is always searching for new
and interesting recipes to use in the breakfast menus. The menus
change with the seasons and are tailored to guests. In the spring,
menus may include rhubarb from the garden, Strawberry French Toast,
or Morel mushrooms if Tom has been successful finding them! Summer
menus may include locally grown blueberries, raspberries, and
cherries. In the fall and winter, cranberries, pumpkin, and apples are
commonly used. Breakfast includes juice, seasonal fruit, a main egg
dish or pancakes, waffles, or French toast, and meat. Donna tries to
prepare foods one wouldn't usually prepare for one's self.
The dining room has recently been redecorated using the creative
talents of Donna's sister. Together they wallpapered and
sponge-painted the walls for a striking effect. The real treasure of
the room is the large, built-in oak buffet. One might even see some of
Reedsburg's black squirrels eating the feeder while you are enjoying
breakfast and conversation at the dining room table.
