Nestled on four acres at American Lake and dotted with old growth fir trees is
Thornewood Castle. Built in 1908 by Chester A. Thorne, this 27,000 square foot
manor is of the Gothic Tudor style and is the only one of its kind on the west
coast. Built as a single family residence, Thornewood is now a gracious country
inn lovingly restored by the Mirau family.
Walk through the halls where Presidents and dignitaries walked. President
William Howard Taft spent the night in one of our rooms. Roam the grounds and
lovely 1/2 acre sunken English perennial garden, or beachcomb, eagle watch,
swim, fish, or boat on the beautiful American Lake.
Enjoy an extensive library while watching remarkable sunsets from the hand
tiled lakeside patio. Antique stained glass windows adorn the manor well as
antique furniture and paintings. Whatever your choices, we will pamper you and
make your stay with us a special memory.
