be beat. With its lobby full of pop art, a funky, high-ceilinged bar
and its location in the Flatiron District, near both Greenwich Village
and SoHo, The Gershwin attracts a predominately young European crowd.
The adjacent cafe offers snacks and light fare. Also attached is an
art gallery that features changing exhibits.
You can shop for
bargains a few blocks downtown at Daffy's and Filene's, visit the flea
market down the Avenue of the Americas on the weekend, stroll to Union
Square, Chelsea, or the Village, or head up Madison to check out
Robert Redford's class pictures at the American Academy of Dramatic
Arts, between 30th and 31st Streets. If you're not in the mood to
travel, the neighborhood around the hotel has plenty of trendy
restaurants like Asia de Cuba, Jaonie's and the Globe.
Nestled
to the left of the Lobby entrance, the Gershwin Hotel's Gallery
features the work of a new artist about every two weeks. Work ranges
from the two dimensional to interactive installations. The Gallery is
also available to rent out for receptions or special occasions.
