Casa de Koshare features traditional territorial architecture
accented with tromb walls, vigas, latillas, exposed adobe, skylights,
banco style seating, brick floors and the ever-present Indian bread
oven (called an horno) for bread baking. The B&B takes its name from the Sacred Clowns of the Pueblo
Indians. The "Koshare" are said to be the Tradition Keepers and the
Delight Makers. They paint their bodies with black and white stripes.
Their purpose varies with different Pueblos. But, the central
theme throughout is to teach the traditions of the Pueblo and to
show non-conformist behavior through comic object
lessons. You will see our Koshare "Chee" throughout our website.
The name Chee comes from a character in one of Tony
Hillerman novels called Sacred
Clowns. We offer a 20% discount on reservations made directly to Casa
de Koshare by phone, if you can tell us how many times you see Chee on the
web site. (offer not valid for holidays or Balloon Fiesta).
