The Inn St. Gemme Beauvais is the oldest continuously operated Bed and
Breakfast in Missouri. The Inn is AAA approved with a three-diamond rating and
a three star rating by Mobil. It has been a recipient of the Golden Star Award
from Inn Style, Inc. and was featured in the June 1998 issue of Country Inns
magazine. The history of the Inn dates back to the 1700's when the daughter of
Vital St Gemme Beauvais bought the property. The building was constructed in
1848 as a private residence for Felix Rozier. The Inn maintains the splendor of
the past with period decor while adding contemporary luxuries in each room.
Upon approaching the wide veranda leading to the front porch, one cannot help
but have their eyes drawn toward the six tall pillars that grace th e front of
this three-story brick colonial mansion. After entering the front door your
senses are inundated. The four-armed brass chandelier dating back to 1849
located in the foyer demands you immediate attention. The sounds of soft
classical music play gently in the background while the smell of fresh baked
goods lingers in the air. To your left you notice the registration desk which
is largely made up of a six drawer spool cabinet. Next to it you notice an
antique post office box which is used to hold the room keys. As you turn, you
see the elegant dining room with an antique crystal chandelier which was
imported from Florence, Italy. It hangs above and in front of the carved marble
mantle of the fireplace. During your candlelit breakfast, there is bound to be
a small fire burning in the fireplace allowing you to bask in the warmth of
it's glow. There is a small common kitchenette and dining area on the second
floor providing guests with a stocked refrigerator, coffee maker, coffees, teas
and snack s all available on an honor basis. Included in your stay is High Tea
at approximately 3:00PM providing teas and breads/cookies, wine and hors
d'oeuvers in the evening, and a full breakfast.
Surrounding the inn is the city of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. The oldest
settlement in Missouri, "Ste Gen", as it is fondly referred to, is
steeped in history. Founded in 1735, it is home to the oldest brick building
west of the Mississippi River and three of the French vertical log homes of
which there are only a handful throughout the United States. The Inn St. Gemme
Beauvais is located in the heart of the historic district. The streets of this
area are lined with antique shops and craft boutiques. The area also has nearby
golf, tennis, and hiking trails at Hawn State Park. Situated only 45-60 minutes
south of St. Louis, Missouri, The Inn St. Gemme Beauvais offers its guest and
Old World setting with New World amenities around the corner. Local restaurants
offer choices varied enough to satisfy any palate.
