John
Garth, in 1871 built a stunning Victorian summer mansion on 39
magnificent acres of gardens, meadows, and woodlands.
By
combining the authenticity of a historic-house museum with the
friendly warmth of a Bed and Breakfast Inn, the Garth Woodside Mansion
offers you a very special experience.
The same charm,
comfort and discreet opulence that greeted Twain are still available
to you. The result is an inn which has been designated one of the "10"
Best Inns in the Midwest.
Today when guests settle in one of
eight bedrooms (all with private baths) or dine at the original eight
leafed walnut table, they step across the century separating them from
the Garth family.
Days can be spent rocking on the veranda
admiring that flight of a humming bird. Long leisurely evenings can be
enjoyed with friends fireside, where guests are invited to mingle,
browse and share Victorian delights. An easy intimacy develops among
guests where you can feel free to take pleasure in the exquisite
treasures around you.
Early risers often glimpse deer and
red fox cubs out of the library windows while sipping coffee in the
first light of morning. With the aroma of freshly baked muffins,
breakfast announces itself with chilled juice, coffee and teas, fresh
fruit with our own special lemon laced cream sauce and a hot entree.
After breakfast you may walk the grounds, curl up with a book or sit
on the veranda catching a cool breeze.
This award-winning
inn glows with seasonal hospitality. One of the favorite times of the
year is the Victorian Christmas season. Full of historical anecdotes
and knowledge of Victorian practices, your innkeepers Irv and Diane,
adhere to many German holiday customs in decorating the mansion.
You
will find that at Garth Woodside Mansion the past has not merely been
preserved but has been kept vividly alive. It is more than just a
night's lodging, but an experience where days move gently, in all
seasons.
