Jonas Green House
This lovely old home is named after its owner, Jonas Green, a cousin and
printer for Benjamin Franklin. Jonas moved into the house in 1738 with his new
bride Anne Catherine, and his decendants have lived here ever since the present
owner is Jonas 5 Greats Grandson. The house offers three bedrooms, all
containing elements of the original structure; Anne Catherine Room. Named for
Jonas' wife, this was the original master bedroom, supposedly built by Jonas
himself. It has a large double bed (originally a rope bed), a working
fireplace, and a private bath with tub and shower. The room has a beautiful
view of the State Capital dome. either two twins or one king bed. The bath is
across the hall and is shared with the Frederick Green Room. The B & B
quarters have a large, tastfully furnished living room and an adjoining dining
room. We serve an extended coffee in the Frederick Green Room. Named for
Jonas and Anne Catherine's oldest son, and probably occupied by Frederick at
sometime in his life. It has a double bed (also originally a rope bed) and a
working fireplace. There is a shared bath immediately adjacent to the room.
Boxing Room. This room is so named because it has no fireplace and could not be
used as a colonial bedroom. It was, therefore, used as a storeroom for boxes
and trunks. Today, this charming room can offerntinental breakfast of seasonal
fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly baked bread and muffins, jams,
jellies, cereals, coffee and tea.
