La Dauphine, Residence des Artistes, is a very laid back guest house
for the budget-minded traveler. No attitude. Located in the bohemian,
artsy part of town, 4 blocks from the French Quarter. Bicycles are
provided, and airport pick up is possible for those staying a few
nights. A mellow, village-like atmosphere prevails throughout the
neighborhood. There are two dogs in the house: Hoshi and Tanuki--
highly intelligent Japanese Shiba Inu's. They are mellow also. The
Alec Baldwin Suite features a four-poster Louisiana cypress queen bed.
Others are king and queen-sized. Charming, renovated Victorian,
100-year-old house. Very relaxed.
Your host is Ray Ruiz, a travel writer and photographer, who lived in
San Francisco for 22 years, and is a native New Orleanian. He is happy
to clue you in to the local scene, especially regarding Cajun &
Creole food and restaurants, art, antiques, architecture and music.
You will be well cared for. Guests have access to the kitchen and
washer/dryer, and rooms have TV/VCR and phone. A complimentary video
orientation to the city, produced by your host, is provided in each
room. Rates are higher for events such as Mardi Gras, Halloween and
Southern Decadence (Labor Day). Each room has an assigned private bath
down the hall.
