Web Site The
MacCallum House Inn, owned and lovingly restored by the Reding family,
occupies a beautiful turn-of-the-century Victorian, built as a wedding
present for town belle, Daisy MacCallum. Situated in the center of
historic Mendocino village with a short stroll to live theater, art
galleries, fine shopping, ocean bluffs and beaches, the Mac
became the social center of town, where Daisy would offer tea and
cookies to passersby. You are equally welcomed as her sunporch remains
a gathering place (now the Grey Whale Bar & Cafe) where locals and
visitors talk over tasty bites from the kitchen, run by Chef Alan
Kantor and Julie Vetter-Kantor, sweethearts who co-own this romantic
restaurant where they met a decade ago. After a drive along one of
California's greatest backroads through the fine wine and
champagne-producing Anderson Valley and Navarro redwoods to the coast,
guests enjoy the inns delightful rooms, richly appointed with
sleigh beds, cherry wardrobes and clawfoot tubs for two, offering
amenities including fireplaces and ocean view balconies. Choose a room
in the main house (including one with a ghostly visitor) or a unique
accommodation in the greenhouse, barn, water tower or carriage house.
In the evening, whether you dine in the casual cafe or the elegant
dining rooms, all are warmed with riverstone fireplaces and offer Chef
Kantors renowned North Coast cuisine nightly.
